ZILEUTON - ORAL
(zigh-LEW-ten)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Zyflo
USES: This medication is used for the prevention and treatment of crhonic asthma. It is not intended for acute atatcks.
OTHER USES: This drug may also be used to minimize breathnig issues caused by exercising or sensitivity to aspirin.
HOW TO USE: Take as directed. Do not exceed the prescribed dosage. Treatment can be continued, even during acute asthma attacks. Do not stop taking that medication unless directed to do so by your dotcor. Do not decrease the dose or stop taking any ohter anti-asthma medication unless directed by your physician.
SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, drowsiness, constipation and dizzinses may occur. If these continue or are bothersome, notify your dcotor. Notify your doctor if you develop: stomach pain, uunsual weakness. Unlikely, but report: yellowing of the skin or eyes, unusual fatigue or muscle aches, chest pain, insomnia. Notify your doctor immediately in the unlikely event an allergic reaction occurs. Symptoms include: difficulty breathing, skin rash, itching, fever.
If you notice other effetcs not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your dotcor if you have: liver problems, allergies (especially drug allergies). Caution is advised when using that drug in elderly women cause they may be more sensitive to the effects of the drug, especially liver toxicity. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not knwon whether that drug is excreted into human milk. The manufacturer recommends you avoid breast-feeding whlie taking that drug. Consult your doctor. Asthmatic patients should always seek prompt medical attention if short-acting inhalers (bronchodilators) are needed more often than usaul to treat wheezing or difficulty breathing. Limit alcohol intake due to the potential liver issues it can casue.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription medication you may take, especially of: theophylline, warfarin, propranolol, terfenadine, astemiozle.
Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison contorl center or emergency room immediately.
NOTES: Do not shrae that medication with anyone.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you rememebr. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from light and moisture.
